Carbon Steel Fabrication in Kitchener, Ontario
Carbon Steel Fabrication for Custom Industrial Projects
BSG cuts, forms, welds, machines and paints carbon steel parts and assemblies in our 44,000 sq ft plant in Kitchener. Since 1987, we've taken on carbon steel manufacturing and fabrication work for customers across Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario.

Beams, stairs, ladders, railings and platforms for construction projects.
Steel Stair Pans
Fabricated steel stair pans, built in Kitchener.
Carbon Steel Cutting
We cut carbon steel using fiber laser, plasma or shear, depending on the part, material thickness and required cut. Stock is then prepped on saws and a CNC coping machine before moving into fabrication, where components are assembled, fitted and prepared for welding.
| Process | Equipment | Carbon Steel Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiber laser | 9kW Amada ENSIS 3015 RIe | Sheet, tube and pipe | Hybrid machine for sheet and tube/pipe. Switches between oxygen and nitrogen assist gas. Up to 4x faster than a CO2 laser. |
| Plasma | Plasma cutting | Thin sheet to heavy plate | Thermal cutting for steel in varying thicknesses. |
| Shear | Plate shear | 18-gauge to 1/2" plate, up to 13 ft long | Straight cuts on sheet and plate. |
| Material prep | Saws, CNC coping machine | – | Stock prep before fabrication. |
Forming and Bending Carbon Steel
Our brake press runs quick-change tooling, which keeps setup short for both prototype parts and production runs. Sheared and laser-cut blanks go straight to forming in the same building.

One Plant, from Raw Plate to Finished Part
Cutting, forming, welding, machining, inspection and painting all happen under one roof, so your carbon steel job doesn't move between vendors. Not every part needs every operation; we route each job through the steps it requires.
| Routing | Process | Capabilities |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Cut | 9kW fiber laser, plasma, shear, saws, CNC coping machine |
| 20 | Form | Brake press with quick-change tooling |
| 30 | Weld | MIG, TIG, Stick, robotic and stud welding |
| 40 | Machine | 5-axis CNC milling, manual milling and turning |
| 50 | Inspect | CMM inspection |
| 60 | Finish | In-house paint booth |

Carbon Steel Pipe and Tube Cutting
Our ENSIS 3015 RIe is a hybrid fiber laser, so it cuts tube and pipe as well as sheet. Pipe and tube components for fabricated assemblies can be cut on the same machine as flat parts, at up to four times the speed of a CO2 laser.
Carbon Steel Welding
MIG is our primary welding process and handles the large majority of our work. We use TIG when a project calls for it, and Stick and robotic welding are also available. Stud welding is available for parts that need fasteners welded in place.
Quality and Certification
We have over 30 welding procedures certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau to CSA W47.1 Division 2.1. A retained welding engineer, a formal quality assurance policy and staff qualified in non-destructive testing let us support your ISO 9000 quality requirements, and critical dimensions can be checked on our CMM before parts ship.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Our shear cuts carbon steel plate from 18-gauge to 1/2" thick, in lengths up to 13 ft. We also cut carbon steel on our 9kW fiber laser and by plasma, which handles steel from thin sheet to heavy plate.
-
We laser cut carbon steel and machine low carbon (mild) steel. Include the material grade on your drawing or quote request so we can plan the right process.
-
Yes. Our Amada ENSIS 3015 RIe is a hybrid fiber laser that cuts tube and pipe as well as sheet, so pipe and tube components can be cut on the same machine as flat parts.
-
MIG is our primary welding process. We use TIG when a project calls for it, and Stick, robotic and stud welding are also available. Our welding is certified to CWB (CSA W47.1) and AWS D1.1, with over 30 welding procedures certified by the CWB.
-
We machine mild steel on 5-axis CNC and manual equipment with tolerances down to ±0.010mm. CMM inspection is available to verify critical dimensions.
-
We spray paint fabricated parts in our in-house paint booth using low-VOC paints and coatings, and our assembly team can put components together before they ship.
-
Yes. Our 44,000 sq ft plant has overhead cranes from 5 to 35 ton for moving heavy plate and large weldments through cutting, welding and finishing.
-
Yes. We accept projects from across Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario.
